Our Story
Southbrook began in 1965 when several partners purchased 104 acres from a local farmer with a vision to build a beautiful golf course along the Welland River. The course originally opened as a nine-hole layout, naturally shaped by the land and the winding river that still defines the course today.
As the club grew, additional property was acquired and another nine holes were added to complete the 18-hole course. In 1988, the course underwent a major redesign led by Superintendent Maurice Ducharme, introducing new greens, challenging layouts, and the sand bunkers that now define the course.
In 2000, the clubhouse was rebuilt to better showcase the sweeping course views while creating a welcoming space for dining, tournaments, weddings, and community events.
In 2015, Southbrook entered a new chapter when ownership was assumed by Ian Ladd, Lisa Mercanti-Ladd, Wray Barrett, and other silent partners. The Southbrook Ownership and Leadership group have been working with world-renowned golf course architect, Doug Carrick on a 10-year plan. Their vision continues to guide the club today — one focused on continuous improvement, community connection, and creating an experience that evolves with the modern golfer.
